The IMU-3000 (IMU™) MotionProcessor ™ gyroscope is the world’s first device supporting 6-axis MotionFusion™ technology for consumer applications. The IMU-3000 has an embedded 3-axis gyroscope and Digital Motion Processor? (DMP?) hardware accelerator engine with a secondary I2C-master port that interfaces to third party digital accelerometers. This delivers a complete 6-axis MotionFusion technology with processed acceleration and rotational motion data. The on-chip FIFO and sensor bus simplifies system timing and lower system power consumption. The dedicated sensor bus allows the device to directly acquire data from the off-chip accelerometer without intervention from an external processor, while the FIFO allows the system microcontroller to burst read the sensor data and then enter sleep mode as the IMU collects more data.
Designed for portable consumer devices such as game controllers and remote controls for Internet-connected TVs, the IMU-3000 with its DMP reduces system costs. By combining motion sensors and the DMP, the system processing requirements of motion-based handheld devices can typically be met by pairing the IMU-3000’s DMP with the processor built into the system’s RF chip. This provides a cost-reduced solution that is readily portable to many different platforms.
To assist in the rapid development and deployment of products using the IMU-3000, InvenSense provides a MotionApps? Platform that contains the core algorithm engines for the MotionProcessing™ Platform, and includes an API layer which provides a simple interface into these engines. In addition, sample motion applications help speed time to market for consumer devices adding motion functionality.
Product features include 3-axis digital gyro with programmable full-scale ranges of ±250, ±500, ±1000, and ±2000 degrees/sec (dps), which is useful for precision tracking of both fast and slow motions. Rate noise performance sets the industry standard at 0.01 dps/√Hz, providing the highest-quality user experience in pointing and gaming applications. Factory-calibrated initial sensitivity reduces production-line calibration requirements. Other industry-leading features include on-chip16-bit ADCs, programmable digital filters, a precision clock with 1% variation from -40°C to 85°C, an embedded temperature sensor, programmable interrupts, and a low 12mW power consumption. Parts are available with an I2C serial interface, a VDD operating range of 2.1 to 3.6V, and a VLOGIC interface voltage from 1.71V to 3.6V.
